Illuminate Downtown Guelph, spearheaded by the Downtown Guelph Business Association (DGBA), unveils an enhanced collection of luminous projects that light up the heart of the city. This transformative endeavour, made possible through financial support from the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), boasts an impressive total of nine buildings.

The illuminated landmarks include the iconic Gummer Building (Skyline), The George (42 Wyndham St N), Frank & Steins, and Hope House. These architectural gems join the distinguished lineup that debuted in 2021, featuring The Wellington Building, The Old Post Office, Royal City Church, the Guelph Civic Museum, and Old Quebec Street Shoppes. The result is a breathtaking after-dark panorama that captivates and connects the community to their city.

The illuminated structures, which include remarkably preserved 19th-century stone facades, a stunning art deco frontage, and a modern architectural landmark, collectively showcase the exceptional architectural heritage of Downtown Guelph. Each of the 10 structures will be illuminated from 30 minutes after sunset until 11 pm, contributing to a vibrant cityscape that celebrates the unique character of Downtown Guelph.

And thats a wrap!

And that's a wrap!Yesterday's final Music Weeekends gig of 2024 by Lennox and the Hot Flashes was a fine way to end an awesome series. Thanks to all of the Downtown venues, singers, musicians, tech wizards and dancers who have joined us for this epic series. Aimed to bring people downtown at a quiet time of day, at a quiet time of year, we've filled bars and restaurants for 9 straight weekends. And we've had everyone home by 6pm. Let's do it all again next year.

This week is the final week to see the Illuminate Downtown Guelph buildings lit up for Black Heritage Month 🏙️

In partnership with the Guelph Black Heritage Society (GBHS), the 9 buildings that form the Illuminate Downtown Guelph project have been lit with the colours of the African Nova Scotia flag this month.

The African Nova Scotia flag was introduced in February 2021 and created by artist Wendie L. Wilson; @novaproud. The flags colours of red, gold and green are used by people of African descent across the world. Red symbolising the sacrifice African Nova Scotian people have endured, gold represents cultural richness and green for fertility, growth and future generations.

Representing the diverse and intersecting communities of Guelph and Wellington County, the Guelph Black Heritage Society strives to inspire personal reflection and discovery for all. For further information on Black Heritage Month and the Guelph Black Heritage Society activities all year round, visit the @guelphblackheritage page.
